Thought:
Try this tongue twister while chewing bubble gum:
WHEN CHEWING DOUBLE BUBBLE GUM, BUBBLES DOUBLE.
***************************************************
We were on our way to the airport one evening, the girls were in the back seat chewing bubble gum, and an utterance came as one that every parent dreads. “Mom, my bubble gum turned to liquid and it’s all over my clothes.” It took all my willpower not to throw my head into the steering wheel like “Don Music” from early Sesame Street would crash his head onto his piano. It was especially a disturbing phrase, since the outfit that my dear child was wearing was brand new, and had never been worn. (Besides that, after several years of sporadic bubble gum chewing, I have never once had the experience that was described by my child, and had bubble gum magically turn into liquid in my mouth. I have tried a time or two to replicate the experience, to no success. If you are successful, or have experience in this experience, please let me know.)
We entered the airport, fetched my hubby, and went home. Call me nuts, but the first thing that was on my mind was not taking care of this gum issue. We had our family celebration and the gum in the pants was forgotten until several days later when I was doing the laundry. I found the pants and went to gather some ice to get the gum out. While I was away from the pants, my mom entered the laundry room, surveyed the damage and grabbed our trusty gallon jug of white vinegar. She poured some directly onto the gum and let it sit for a little. To our utter amazement, the vinegar worked marvelously in removing the sticky gum. We reapplied it several times, rubbed the area, and the gum all came out.
When we had removed all the residual gum, we laundered the pants as usual. The vinegar took the “sticky” out of the gum and made it very easy to remove the gum from her clothes.
